hi,
my setup is via cablemodem. my isp's dhcp server provides everything it's supposed as
i can observe in /etc/dhcpc/hostinfo-eth0. but, rather odd, looking at route's data my
default route is not present.
# cat /etc/dhcpc/hostinfo-eth0
LEASETIME=10800
RENEWALTIME=5400
REBINDTIME=9450
IPADDR=<my ip>
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
BROADCAST=<bcast>
HOSTNAME=<host name>
ROUTER=<gateway>
btw, why is the gateway field named "router" and not "gateway"?
i've been trying to figure out /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup to see how the
default gateway it set up.
the way i see it, dhcp does not set up a 'default' gateway. but it's set in
/etc/sysconfig/network
fine i said, let's hack it. so i put my gateway there. problem is, my isp don't always
attribute me an ip from the same C class. so, everytime i down the thing i have to get
at the console to set the gateway.
i was wondering if anyone had any insights on this. there must be something obvious i
don't see. ;)
something that could help, can anyone point me to a ressource where dhcpc's job is
explained in details?
