Comrades,

How many people here experience this: you’re talking to a Democrat (someone who
supports Democrats), and you bring up some bit of information that you know is
true – it’s not an opinion, it’s a fact; it can be verified easily – and the
Democrat has not heard this and questions your source. “Where did you hear
that, Fox News?”

Democrats will ask you because unless it’s from one of their approved vetting
outlets, it’s a right-wing conspiracy theory. I’ll respond by pointing to the
origin, such as a press conference, or a statement released by an official
agency… not the platform I learned about it from. It doesn’t usually matter. If
it was ignored by the New York Times (for example), it’s as if it doesn’t
exist. If it’s not a one, it’s a zero.

For some of you, this will not happen — you’re too famous. But for regular
people, do you find this happens to you?

I think it’s a result of the derogation of the idea of “the left”. There used
to be enough of us that a position opposed to the Democrats could be understood
as something other than right wing. Today, there is next to nothing there, so
in the effort to quickly place this non-vetted information, the safest guess is
“ right-wing conspiracy”. It also serves to distance the Democrat from any
confusion of supporting right wing ideas. Better safe than sorry. You can
always adjust your position later, once permission is handed down.

Kristin

P.S.: I do not watch Fox News.
