My general belief, as someone who wants Ukraine to expel the annexing Russian imperialists, is that the talk about "Europe" being threatened is so much BS with no substantial, at least literary, evidence that this is Putin's goal. Russia is incapable of launching a war against Europe even if they wanted to, which I've seen no evidence that their expansionist activities regarding Ukraine applies to the rest of Europe whatsoever.
Russia, regardless of how they do in Ukraine, is coming out at *every level*, weaker than they went into this war. It is sort of the opposite of the USSR in WWII (or the U.S. for that matter) but more like France and Britain did after the war though the analogy is a bit of stretch. The scare talk about "Europe under threat by Russia" is just that, scare talk to increase EU defense budgets.
