"Stalinist" or "(proto-)Stalinist" adds nothing and is plain wrong. There are people calling themselves socialist or communist but not Trotskyist who take the stated position, and there are people of the same type who take the opposite position denouncing both Washington and Beijing. I do not know of any communist who criticizes the leftist apologists for China and who feels a need to label them (proto)Trotskyist. Probsting gathers some helpful data in his critique.
