I think so. Michael Roberts has explored this on his blog https://thenextrecession.wordpress.com/. Just put "rate of profit" in the search box. Many others have also researched this--Carchedi, Kliman, Estaban Maito-- to get started and find good links to other sources, I recommend Roberts.
