In the first place, I try to be as precise as possible in my language and Mark Lause should do the same in characterizing what people say. I never said Trump would institute fascism. I did say something to the effect that he’d be far more authoritarian, more racist, etc. than he was in his first term. Overall, I’ve always characterized him as a bonapartist. There is a difference between bonapartism and fascism. Maybe it’s simply a lack of historical understanding on Mark’s part, in which case he should go back and study some history.
I stand by what I wrote about trying to keep Trump out, and Trump does not have to be a “fascist” in order to justify that position. As far as the ILA: As I pointed out, there are various scenarios possible. I just suggested one of them. People can nit pick around about different scenarios, but they miss the main point: Trump apparently knows he cannot simply crush the unions. Mark Baugher asks why Trump would support the side that pays him less. That is a simplistic approach. Trump is a political animal who has a keen sense of his base of support. No, Trump will not give all-out support to an ILA strike. So far, though, he’s giving verbal support to the ILA (in his own nationalistic way) and it seems that he’s unlikely to use the Taft Hartley to force Daggett to call the strike off. I think that would possibly be enough to force USMX to reach an agreement like what I suggest. Overall, many of those who think they are Marxists (or even socialists of some sort) have lost the script. Everything is not set in stone. What was correct one day is not necessarily correct the next. And things are not black and white, yes or no. The capitalist method of rule is not either through bourgeois democracy of fascism.
