Thank you Chris. I think this nuanced and balanced view is more sensible than a hailing of the HTS as an unqualified "revolution". But one that *also* celebrates the freeing of the Syrian people from the Assadite herediatry fascist stranglehold.
FWIW The situation seems to me, as being akin to the post-fascist, re-win of the bourgeois democratic stage of a form of democracy. Achcar rightly in my view, steers between the Putinite-Assadist Scylla of the condemnation of HTS; while avoiding the Charybdis of the glorification of the HTS. Perhaps the only things he may not stress enough (again just in my view) is the congruity between the Israeli take-over of parts of Syria; the worries that the USA had had as Assad was previously negotiating with the Saudis (virtually parallel to the Abraham Accords I believe); and the long desired imperialist make-over of the geography of the Middle East. Also to take into account is the long-standing betrayals of the Kurdish liberation forces by the USA - relying on the naiviete of the Kurdish bourgeois nationalists going back to the Barzani clan. While I do not agree with the over-praise here by some of Rojava and the Ocalan forces, it is toe-hold for the Kurdish nationalists. But personally I think it is distinctly time-limited right now.
