My understanding of David's point is that even though Norton is alive, the issue being discussed was Spain in the 1930s, very much a point of contention between historical Stalinists and Trotskyists. However, I would oppose calling him a "Stalinist" with reference to his politics today, ie, his active shilling for Putin, Assad, Xi etc. There are good examples of list members here broadly from the "Stalin" tradition who do not share these campist views in relation to various capitalist dictatorships or imperialist powers, whereas there are some "Trotskyists" who do. Therefore it is not only a matter of labelling list members, but of accuracy; the world is a different place to the 1930s.
