In that essay, he made an analogy with German reparations to Israel. In his new book, The Message, <https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-message-ta-nehisi-coates/1145001757> Coates expresses regret for the unexamined Zionist biases in that analogy, which obscured the dispossession of the Palestinian people and their consignment to a form of Jim Crow — something he realized forcefully on a recent trip to Israel and Palestine.
