But the subject is do animals need words to think
If harmony is a language, it is one that can be used to communicate in real time without using words

Harmony is a language.  Most jazz improvisation occurs over fixed chord sequences, or “progressions,” which follow certain patterns (ii-V is common
) and like spoken language can be written down (A MAJ—D7—F# dim, etc) as well as apprehended by ear.  Musicians do react in the moment to what they hear, but so do speakers of English or Chinese.  Before meeting to jam, jazz musicians often study a “chart,” the written chord progressions of a tune, to prepare.
