A novice question: we are aware of having a thought, but we feel it is a only a
proto-thought, not fully formed. We resort to internal language, "speaking to
ourselves." Or in a conversation, we have the proto-thought but we need another
step to put it into a sensible sentence. In these two cases, thinking needs
language.

I wonder whether brain imaging catches the interaction.
