Robin, That is a legitimate question especially for sectors of the left who uncritically support petty gangster capitalist regimes and emergent imperialists and champion them as the path forward for the working class. Revolutionary Marxists, unlike those who you are focused on, do not support these semi-colonial comprador capitalist regimes although we defend their nations from imperialist interference militarily stand in military blocs with them for their victory over the CIA, NSA and overt imperialist military intervention. When fake socialists and nationalists in the semi-colonies are attacked by US imperialism we defend their nations from imperialism because the defeat of the imperialists by any semi-colonial regime would advance the strength of the international working class by weakening and hopefully taking the main enemy (the reining imperialist power) down a notch. Although we may be in a military bloc with them we do not defend the petty gangsters. Rather, for the moment our "guns" are pointing in the same direction, we fight against our own ruling class which we all know claims the right to police the semi-colonies and control foreign markets, sea lanes and international trade. The US imperialists use the contradictions and internal disputes in the semi-colonies to crush the workers and peasants movements and will turn on a dime to make the best deal for Wall Street. We tell workers to have no faith in either the fake socialists (Maduro, Chavez, Lula for example) or the color revolution plants and semi-fascist groups (think Zelensky or Azov and Right Sector in Ukraine for example or Bolsonaro in Brazil) or the Monarchist like the Pahlavi son of the Shah in Iran. They are all drawn into and have make their peace with the the international imperialist system to keep the workers and landless from taking power. As internationalists we support revolutionary socialists in every semi-colonial country who are attempting to overthrow their own comprador bourgeoisie. Only the working class and the oppressed can carry out an effective revolutions to win national independence from imperialism so we warn that the petty gangsters will use the righteous anti-imperialism of the masses to whip up and mobilize nationalist fervor for the gains of their own petty capitalist cliques. Often masking their gangsterism in Red flag iconography and prove their socialism with small hand outs (bolsa de familia) to alleviate the worse poverty with no intention of ever elevating the workings and landless farmers to power. Our defense of the semi-colonies is the same method we used to defend the USSR and the other post capitalist states from imperialism. We knew that their bureaucratic leaderships were always looking for their next best deal with imperialism and would not defend the post capitalist property relations unless forced to by the masses (and in the end they did not!) We also knew that the defense of the gains of the revolutions meant the imperialists had to be turned back or the bureaucracy would impose the will of imperialism as they were weakened by the lack of workers democratic power. So we opposed Stalin, Mao and the other Stalinist regimes fighting for political revolution from within while we defended the post capitalist property relations by fighting the imperialist attacks from abroad. The fake socialists mostly proto and neo-Stalinists made their peace with imperialism (originally at the request of Stalin during the Hitler Stalin Pact, and later at Potsdam and Yalta). Today most of them have made their peace with the authoritarian newly emergent imperialist bloc of China/Russia and hail the BRICS+ bloc as the progressive anti-imperialist path to defeat western imperialism. These fake leftists became apologists for the crony capitalist regimes. Groups like the Green Party, UNAC, ANSWER, Code Pink, PSL, WWP, Socialist Action and others refuse to defend revolutionary uprisings against the gangster capitalists in the semi-colonies because they are contaminated by CIA interference and color revolutions instigated by National Endowment for Democracy. Thus they deny the agency of the masses and refuse to help the masses contest for control of their own revolutions. Of course the CIA, MI6 and other agents of imperialism have their hand in every semi-colonial uprising, how else could they maintain or gain power for Wall Street? But that does not delegitimize the righteous indignation of the masses in the semi-colonies whose needs are not not served by the interlopers waving nationalist flags and making soft references to a socialist alternative they never intend to, no are able to implement (because that would mean giving up their power and wealth.) These outfits fake internationalism shines through as they refuse to defend the masses fighting against their twin oppressors (the comprador capitalists who sell the labor power of the masses to imperialism on the international market) The skirt their internationalist duty by claiming their main task and obligation as socialists is to oppose their own imperialist ruling class at home. So while they oppose US interference and give the likes of Assad and Maduro a free pass they claim that as American socialists they have no right let along obligation to criticize these semi-colonial leaders. So much so that when the ANC carried out the massacre at the Marikana mine they refused to protest. Today when the Chinese state mining company take over the Namibian Rossing Uranium mine and throw out the mine workers leaders and break the old contracts they refuse to defend the miners! Theirs is not Bolshevik Leninism it is capitulation and social chauvinism and ultimately social-imperialism in reverse (by siding with the other imperialist bloc), all such forces act as a road block to international socialist revolution and will never mobilize the US working class to take power because they lose the American workers as they bend a knee to fake socialists abroad. Let's not kid ourselves - Maduro and his plutocratic cronies have become enormously wealthy at the expense of the Venezuelan working class. Poverty and inequality - Venezuela has one of the highest GINI coefficients in the world - has grown significantly under his rule. True, the situation has not been helped by sanctions but this should not be used as an excuse to give succour to this corrupt and oppressive regime. Obviously I have no sympathy whatsoever for the main opposition either but it has to be said that evidence that they won the election is pretty much indisputable. They collected this evidence precisely in anticipation of the regime attempting to commit electoral fraud. The scanned copies of the physical actas or voting tallies they published on their website are unforgeable. Each contains a QR code and a unique ID number as well as the wet signatures of the officials at voting centres themselves. With more than 80 per cent of the total number of actas published on that website, there can no doubt that Maduro lost heavily. Anyone with any respect for the truth and the democratic process would acknowledge this. The fact that the CNE has still not released a breakdown of the results a month after it solemnly pledged to do so (and is not likely now ever to do so) tells us all we need to know. Maduro knows he lost and is clinging onto power (and the substantial fortune that comes with it) by lying through his teeth.
