The blame game on the list illustrates that nothing the marginalized Marxist left has tried for generations has worked - neither a frontal assault on the leadership of the left-centre parties from the outside nor attempts to displace the leadership of the unions and union-based parties from the inside. We’ve e reached the point where John Reimann, despite his laudable best efforts, considers his paltry vote total in his mayoralty campaign against the Democratic party establishment in Oakland as somewhat encouraging rather than a sign of just how isolated he and we truly are.
If workers aren’t moving in our direction, the explanation frequently offered is that other “so-called” Marxists haven’t embraced the correct strategy or have sold out. It’s diffcult for some to accept that the present working class malaise is owing to historical developments beyond our control, and more self-assuring to believe it can be overcome by adopting forms of propaganda and agitation derived from a period when class consciousness and combatively were at a much higher level. But unless and until the steady decline in trade union density is halted and conditions become such as to force a resurgence of left-wing mass militancy and organization capable of challenging for state power, we're necessarily limited to assisting the modest number of activists in our local communities struggling for various systemic reforms, and to using this list as a means of collectively tracking developments and exchanging views - preferably in a comradely and constructive way. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
