I can't recall seeing ever seeing something like this at this point in a presidential campaign. Or the sort of open discussion about the nature of the Democratic Party. We have no investment in this particular game, and have had to make do with watching it from afar. I think it'll be useful and instructive for us to see what comes out of it.
I suspect that this will be the last serious national campaign by the Greens. The challenge they have always faced is whether they were going to get serious about building a party or not. In only a few states have they done this. Every four years, I have hoped that they would use the campaign to build something that would outlast it. I do not see it happening now. So all sorts of people who've been satisfied with the Greens may have an opening to actually build something after 2020. For whatever it's worth, I would urge them to take it.
