Dear all, We're pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Research opportunity with NOAA's Southeast Fisheries Science Center to develop density estimation methods for cetaceans using long-term moored passive acoustic recordings.
The Marine Mammal Program at the Southeast Fisheries Science Center conducts long-term assessments of marine mammal populations throughout the Gulf of Mexico, southeastern US waters of the North Atlantic, and the Caribbean for conservation and management under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and Endangered Species Act. The SEFSC passive acoustics team collects vessel-based and long-term moored platform passive acoustic recordings to assess marine mammal distribution, density, and abundance trends, and to understand the role of natural and anthropogenic processes driving those trends. This postdoctoral position is part of a larger collaborative passive acoustic project to characterize seasonal, annual, and decadal trends in marine mammal species in the Gulf of Mexico, assess the role of ocean conditions and human activities in driving these trends, and monitor and mitigate impacts of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals in the Gulf of Mexico. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an interest in marine mammal density estimation for protected species management, who possesses strong quantitative skills in population assessment using passive acoustic data. This position is located in Miami, FL. Job title: Postdoctoral Associate Posting duration: Through November 30, 2020 or until filled Begin date: January 4, 2021 or as soon as filled The Postdoctoral Researcher position ad can be found on the UCAR Careers page at the following link: https://ucar.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/UCAR_Careers/job/Foothills-Lab-4/Postdoctoral-Researcher_REQ-2020-222-1 Please feel free to share this link with anyone who may be interested!
