The Húsavík Whale Museum, a non-profit organisation, in Iceland has been
collecting photo-identification and sightings data of minke whales, humpback
whales and white-beaked dolphins for a period of over seven years. The aim of
this research has been to understand the distribution of these species within
Icelandic waters and how this can be used to assist with their management and
conservation.

This summer researchers managed to capture images of an individual humpback
whale with two distinct dorsal fins. This is the first case we have seen of
such a distinctive abnormality and we are wondering if any other research
organisations have seen similar examples or may have an idea of the potential
of such a condition occurring within this or other species?
