Accidentally I found the following link:http://openclipart.org/faq there I
found following text

"How can I use these images in OpenOffice.org(up to version
2.3) does not natively support SVG files, however there are two
broad approaches to getting theOCALimages into OpenOffice.
The first approach is using vector formats, which are inherently
higher quality and scale very well. The second, or fall back,
approach is to use bitmap/raster formats, which do not scale well."

There is a bit more. Search for "OpenOffice" on this page.

and
http://openclipart.org/search/?query=openoffice

Hope this is or use for you.

Thanks for this.

For those who are interested, I am also working the same clipart collection into a format that will work for LibreOffice, but it means cataloguing some 100,000 svg images into theme folders; the present images are catalogued according to authors. I hope to have it ready in a month or two.It will pretty well be "drag and drop" into the "gallery" folder for easy access on the "Gallery" menu and there will be hints on how to trim the gallery items if there are too many of these.

Cheers,

Marc
