[Maria-discuss] MariaDB version string in initial handshake

Hi all,

	I’m seeing a version string like this from the server in the initial 
handshake:

5.5.5-10.1.16-MariaDB

	Why does MariaDB negotiate with a different-format version string than 
MySQL? Is this documented somewhere?
