Initial clone takes time, unfortunately. You can speed it up by using the tarball, as explained here: https://www.mariadb.com/kb/en/source-getting-the-mariadb-source-code/ Alternatively, you can use git-bzr (or git-bzr-ng) to clone bzr repositories with git.
