You might want to do some searching there. I think it would have been easier to setup/manage doing things the other way around (i.e. using a phpBB auth plugin calling the MantisBT SOAP api, or connecting directly to Mantis DB) ;-) We unfortunately don't have an authentication plugin system (although that's been on the roadmap for a long time [3]), so I think this is really going to require some customizing of MantisBT core.
