We're getting loads of "acknowledgement" emails from numerous legitimate helpdesk systems coming to us, from emails that we didn't send.

Analyzing the headers, it appears that the helpdesks are sending automated messages to email addresses which are going to Google Groups, which, somehow, have us listed on them. Some of our business contacts have said they're getting the same - even via the same Google Groups. Searching for the group online finds other people checking it as well.

Obviously Google isn't willing or able to stop the spam being sent through their Groups infrastructure; they have been notified often enough. I have resolved to rejecting anything with the hallmark "...+bnc..." localpart (except for some hand-picked exceptions).

Of course, that does not help against the backscatter that you're apparently getting, which would probably need some more advanced filtering.

Cheers,
Hans-Martin
