Never heard about this. It's also a RFC violation. The hostname in EHLO
must exist and be canonical name (thus not CNAME), but that's all.
I have also never heard about any server enforcing this - got an example of
such server?

Yeah, and I am fully with you that this should be the default. ;-)
Sadly, there also is 'a rather large ESP' that considers EHLO matching
FCrDNS more of a 'suggestion'.
Because this is suggestion. The RFC explicitly says mail must not be
refused just because EHLO does not match FCrDNS.
