I think you're right. I'm mostly just checking to make sure there
wasn't a setting that I was missing. Everybody seems to concur that
it's not doable.

A workaround is to configure the additional domain as a secondary
domain, instead of as a user alias domain. In that instance, any
account on the secondary domain will have full SPF alignment and DKIM
alignment. The downside is that it's no longer an alias domain --
you're paying for additional users in Google Workspace and managing
wholly separate mailboxes.
