I'm calling it broken, not intentional. I put a notice up on my Spam
Resource blog and Twitter.

To all doing a telnet test (from a non-dynamic IP), is anyone NOT
getting that 554 error?

Cheers,

We also had a problem with them (One of our ISP email clusters) , a case
where we had two (2) PTR records, and two A Records, but either their
lookup, or their 3rd party tools weren't smart enough to check each
entry to find a A <<>> PTR match...

When contacted, they responded by saying that 'any' flag on the
MULTIVALLI listing tool would prevent delisting..

Yeah, it looks like they went overly aggressive, not sure if they use
home grown tools, or a 3rd party though..

So you MIGHT want to check A <<>> PTR alignment, might be what they are
using..

Well they've responded, but weren't very helpful ... I don't think they
see a problem :(

It certainly looks like a misconfiguration to me tbh

I remember seeing this particular error code when setting up new mail
servers with IPs that have not previously sent mail to T-Online MXs. In
these cases I e-mailed the listed address and T-Online staff manually
cleared the addresses. Thus, my guess is that some T-Online blocking
mechanism is currently out of whack.
The address quoted, and the string "(BL)" does suggest that a blocking
mechanism has wandered off into the weeds.
