Sendmail has supported this since quite old releases, Postfix probably
was
supporting it from the beginning... Same for Exim. As far as I know,
in
sendmail and Postfix it is even turned on by default (don't know for
Exim,
as I used it very little).
The support in some MTAs and MDAs for treating "+" and/or other
characters as delimiters between a primary local-part and a 'tag' is an
entirely local matter and should never be presumed by any sender. The
'+' is in no way special to SMTP.
