Hi Michelle, You have been around long enough to know that a secured commercial entity simply means it will take longer for that their data to be leaked Vs a non secured commercial entity :)
And that facebook provides customer information to 'associated' third parties for whatever purpose. 3 years ago I created an email account purely for our house related stuff, (on one of my own domains) but only used it for Synergy here in Western Australia, as of November 2017 I've receiving phishing emails addressed to my brother in-law using our house email address (and his first and last correctly spelt names), my brother in-law who has never had a Synergy account nor ever lived over this side of Australia. Simple answer is my address book has been lifted and corrupted but I dont use Windows, Mac, or Linux, and I only have his first name attached to his email address. An in-depth check still shows my computer is secure, firewall and server logs all come up clean, my browser uses a proprietary javascript engine in a secure up todate firefox build. I use a text based email client that doesn't have plugins and only a HTML to Text converter. Still haven't figured that one out, like separate new spammer databases merged and something got corrupt.. a very big coincidence maybe.. but I'm also sure that Synergy has had its data lifted because it was all publicly viewable last time I accidently looked about 3 years ago. > The leak is not in my email system or my desktop as far as I can tell > (obviously if there is a zero day for the Mac that hasn't > been found yet I could be seriously mis-informed... :) ... but I expect > they'd be taking a lot more than an email address used > only for Facebook.) Yes, I can think of more high value targets to go for first. Just one of those wierd things happening lately.
