2. BTW, after updating a MM version, how can I access the last version which I just updated from?

Old versions of MailMate can be snagged at

https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/

(Whenever I'm updating an app, I generally compress my current version of it first. That way, I can easily revert if I find I need to.)

Good strategy! But what if you have forgotten and you are on teh go and don’t have your backup?

But you likely do, if you are running a modern OS on APFS...

If you run "tmutil listbackups" you'll see all of the backups TimeMachine thinks that it has. If you run "diskutil listSnapshots disk1s5" (or whatever device is mounted as your "data" volume) you'll get a list of the snapshots that are actually on disk. Restoring a file (or app bundle) is straightforward: mount the snapshot, copy the file. Detailed instructions can be found amid much more info on APFS snapshots at https://derflounder.wordpress.com/2019/05/08/creating-managing-and-using-apple-file-system-snapshots-for-startup-drive-backups/ (search for "Restoring Files And Directories From Snapshots")
