I do this with virtual mailboxes with conditions. The virtual mailbox
selects messages in deleted mailboxes and has conditions on messages
other than a threshold with an action to permanently delete. I have
different conditions depending on tags. E.g., I have a "delete-sooner"
tag that gets applied to messages from businesses. Messages marked junk
or "suspected-spam get" permanently deleted a few weeks after being
deleted, messages marked "delete-sooner" one month, other messages three
months.
