I actually kind of agree with Max. Until iOS mail supports smart folders this is the only way to cut down mail that's visible on my iOS device.

That really is a ridiculous number of mailboxes ;-)

I don't see any obvious way to improve this beyond what OS X already does to help you. If you open the menu and enter the first few letters of a mailbox then it is selected and then you can hit right-arrow to activate the submenu. Repeat for each submenu.

If I had something like Cmd+T when using these combo boxes to select a folder that would be useful too.

Hmm, I guess ⌘T could be allowed to do that for the mailbox editor window (or any focused mailbox popup menu), but it seems a bit weird.
