I do have "a" mapped to archive a message, through the keybinding
method. I like Michael's idea of mapping "t" to moveToMailbox, but if
he's tried it without success, I'd rather not make the effort.

No, alas, it does not. I agree, it would be handy to type "a" to
archive when selecting a message, for example -- it does require some
sort of modifier though.
