Ok, then I can probably reproduce it. You can also launch MailMate
from the Terminal to see which string makes it crash. That might
provide a hint with regard to what goes wrong as well. (It should be a
decoded string without the UTF-8 wrapper stuff.)
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
Any idea of what might be going wrong?
A wild guess is that a quote mark is involved, but that does not
appear to be the case with your example.
Indeed I can reproduce it with a quote mark:
