Hi Ravi Kumar , Since you are from a C#/.NET background and you want to change OS as well the development platform , Eclipse IDE + PHP with some GNU Linux is (IMHO ) the best combination available. For front facing web sites , PHP gives the best return on the time invested in it. Using Perl for Web development is a thing of past and PHP is more popular than Python . ( Since you are from semi compiled application programming background , Python might be attractive for you ) Other options available are groovy , ruby etc . Let me ask you something a ) Why you want to forsake your investment in C#/.NET ? Why cannot you explore PHP/Linux as another skill set in your kitty ? I think , GNU Linux + PHP/Python will augment your skill set and some times your existing skill set + to be acquired skill set can do wonders for you. Another option available for you to port your skill set is Mono Project where they have got a 100% non microsoft implementation of ASP.net . There is a mod-mono for Apache as well. I have recently ported an accounting package worth 7500 + lines of C#/.NET code to work on GNU Linux using Mono. Uff … I forgot to mention Java as well.
If you want to build a career , specialize in a Compiled language ( C , C++ , Objective C ) or In a semi compiled language ( C# or Java ) or PHP/Python in that order. if you can do all (at least a representative member from each set ) , you will be having a good career .
