Hi all ,
MoonLight is the Ximian's implementation of Silverlight Infrastrcture from
scratch. It holds great promise for developers who were targeting Windows to
get into Linux and MAC OS X .

I think , Mono Project has come of age for real development. Incidently , I am
talking about Mono tomorrow at a developer conference organized by Kerala
Microsoft Users group. ( It is Kerala Microsoft Tools user group ! ) . The
session is titled "PlunJ into Mono". ( I will be using Mono under MAC OS X for
my demo. !!! in a M$ sponsored event.)

Last week , I ported a 7500+ LOC program written for .NET 1.1 to run using Mono
under Windows , Linux and MAC OS X. The program compiles correctly on all these
platforms.
Under Fedora 10 , It works fine without any glitches. One of my friend reported
that the stuff works fine on OpenSUSE ( Both distributions use Mono for their
utilities !)

In MAC OS X , we need to compile sqlite3 to generate dylib (.so in linux
parlance ) to run the program.

I have blogged about it and planning to open source it under the name SPAM4.net
http://praseedp.blogspot.com/2010/10/spam4net-educational-tool-for-wannabie.html

I have compiled my SLANG4.net (http://slangfordotnet.codeplex.com ) using Mono

In a nutshell ,

a ) Mono is now production ready for real life software development
b ) Windows developers can target other platform ( Cross Platform C# )
c ) You can develop for iPhone ( MonoTouch ) and Android (MonoDroid )

What is in store for FOSS people.

       a) There is no good Desktop development tool under GNU Linux. Mono can
fill the void.
       b) More people targetting Linux means more adoption for GNU Linux.

A note
----------
When .NET was announced , Stallman was a enthusiastic supporter for the
initiative by starting dotGNU project. I have heard him (in person ) talking
about this in the year August,2001. When, the mono project got more adoption ,
he made a U-turn on this.

regards
Praseed Pai

Hi all,

I believe we all have been hearing about Microsoft's Silverlight project
intended to compete with Adobe Flash player. Well, i have seen today that there
is a GPL V2 version of this project called Moonlight developed by Novell. What
is our stand on it??.. Do u think Moonlight can be promoted ??.. Please make
your suggestions..

Warm Regards,
S.Sreekanth
