I suppose, it is because of the politics involved in making software free, that many of us started using them and not just because of the superiority over any other system. That put aside, we love the ecosystem and we started experimenting with stuff that at last proved for us beyond doubt that, this is far more superior than proprietary counter stuff.
I started as a windows user for sure. I then started installing Free software inside windows. Next I tried out some distro and was not able to run it by my self. So was stuck in windows for long. Still I was able to use many a free software programs to my satisfaction even inside windows. But the quest to migrate to Gnu/Linux continued. That ended up in continous distro hopping and now I am using only Arch linux in my Laptop without much proprietary stuff. My father uses Chakra as his choice of distro. I have a desktop too, which is used by my school going child and I have Ubuntu in it right now. I am planning to replace it with FreeBSD though. These are all choices. Somebody coming to an event of a Libre S/w user group and advocating for the use of proprietary stuff is silly. Without the politics behind it, will GPL be ever evolved? gnu.org's list is just a recognition of being completely free. Can't somebody maintain such a list? Open office is available in windows too. Does that make Open Office proprietary? What is the rationale in calling someone hypocrite for such a naive reason?
