Hello all,

As you all might be aware, software Freedom Day(
http://softwarefreedomday.org/) is celebrated this 18th. Why don' t we take
free software to the youth? I believe ILUG-Kochi can play a big role in
towards that.

Proposal
1) Setting up small kiosks in the coffee shops of the Kochi City. Coffee
shops and Pizza centres are the two main places where youth spend time
today. So these will be the best places where they can be given an insight
into GNU/Linux OSs and Free Software.
2) GNU/Linux CDs can be distributed at these centres, along with other
softwares. Now, the funds for these can be raised by either of the 2 ways
as follows,l
-> Getting sponsorships from retail chains like Cafe Coffee Day, Dominoz
Pizza's, Oberon Cinemax, etc
->charging the cost of media(Rs 10) from people (Dont know if this will
work)
3) The same things can be done in the schools in the city (this will be more
interesting i guess). Distros like Ubuntu, OpenSUSE etc. can be introduced
amongst school students. I'm sure they'l love to flaunt them. Small talks
can be given by the senior members of the ILUG-Kochi team at schools.

All these would require large number of volunteers (count me in). I guess
this would be interesting, useful, and would build a sense of cooperation
and brotherhood amongst ILUG-Kochi members, students, youth and all. Most
mportant, it helps in spreading the power of Freedom- Power to You!!

Hoping lots of positive replies and team spirit and cooperation and
inspiration and encouragement and support in this direction

Regards,
Dibu John
