The BEST book I've read on LaTeX is this "Formatting Information" [PDF]:
http://www.tug.org/TUGboat/Articles/tb23-2/tb74flynn.pdf

Not many places recommend it, instead going by LaTeX beginner's guide etc. I
guarantee the above to be the best beginner / intermediate info out there.

Do read a review here: [PDF]:

LaTeX is NOT derived from TeX. LaTeX is a set of macros on top of TeX which
eases use of TeX. Plain TeX is VERY VERY hard to use. Believe me, I've tried,
you wouldn't want to use it.

So does modern computing owes to Knuth (pronounced K-nooth) more than half of
the algorithms we use everyday.

Me too. I'd have taken one, but work won't permit me much free time for slides
etc.

We have had one session in LUG long back. I'd be certainly interested to
contribute my ideas / experiences.

Warm regards,
