i don't know if it has any relevance,but we had a similar problem when accessing runtime.getRuntime()(i dont remember the syntax!) from JAVA ,the problem was with interactive commands like 'passwd' which requires a command line input ,well we made everything we wanted to do into a simple shell script and executed the script --do wait some Xperts in PHP may turn around:_ also for immediate results just logon to any Programming related rooms in Yahoo Messenger
