Sunil excellent idea...
Local internet cafes are a good place to start with.
Most of the cafe's use M$ unregistered OS and
products. So what we can do is first convince the
owner and convert one of the machines to a
GNU/linux(preferably dual booting) box. Then give the
Sys admin there a class on how to work around with
things on GNU/linux. Then if the public thinks its
good lets install on more machines. Never plan on
converting all the machines to linux. Most of the
cafes earn their living by providing game services to
customers which may only run on M$ OS.
UBUNTU Linux is a good distro based on Debian. Its
neat and light. Comes in one CD and has all the
necessary software. Its support for hardware is also
good, I'v even seen it running on latest Laptops. But
I tried installing it on a Dell inspiron 700m which
was not successful. The only down side of Ubuntu is it
only has GNOME and I'm a KDE guy. But their repository
is same as debian's so #apt-get install kde and by the
time I finished lunch I have my favorite KDE running
in my office machine.
