Subject: [Mailinglist] Kernel compiling on a different system?
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Another question please... Xandros 2.0 OCE has detected the sound card on the
system here... but it is reporting some sort of errors (even Knoppix 3.4
doesn't play). It has an Intel 865PE(RL) mother board with onboard integrated
audio with a 3GHz HT processor. Now because of that (and mostly only because of
that) people are booting into the WIn XP.

Now my question is whether a kernel can be compiled for system A on system B?
i.e. downloading the kernel source and compile it on system B by specifying the
configuration of system A? And then just copy the zipped kernel image from
system B to system A. Will that work?

And while going for a fresh kernel, won't it be better to go for a 2.6 rather
than a 2.4 since this system has an HT processor?
