Hiiiii Suraj
Hope u r doing gr8 too.

dd if=/dev/hda of=/tmp/tmp.txt bs=512 count=1
make an iso image...
mkisofs -N -R -J -otmp.iso .
then write a multisession CD...
cdrecord -v -multi -speed=24 dev=0,0,0 /tmp/tmp.iso
and then write the rest of the images onto the CD...

could u please explain the logic behind this, a littl more.
This is what i understood. I created a bootable cd.But then,how am i going 2
boot the images that i copied onto the cd. Where do I link them. What actualy

  Hi hashir,

Hope all is well with you....
I can think of two methods to write the cd
one would be to make an entire image of the harddisk(<700MB), and write it
onto a CD...The CD should boot...
The other way of writing the CD would be to first copy the boot sector of the
harddisk to a file...

  dd if=/dev/hda of=/tmp/tmp.txt bs=512 count=1
  make an iso image...

  mkisofs -N -R -J -otmp.iso .
  then write a multisession CD...

  cdrecord -v -multi -speed=24 dev=0,0,0 /tmp/tmp.iso

and then write the rest of the images onto the CD...

I haven't tried any of these....so better use a rewritable CD.....

  Hope to hear the results....

and then write the rest of the

Thank u..Mr Bijoy and Mr Rajesh. Ys , i think i would make my doubt clearer.
I want to b able to store images of diff distros onto a single CD. So tht i
can install them all from one plce. Supoose i have images - say- linux1 ,
linux2 , Dos , win98 etc. Suppose they fit into a single CD. Now i want to
install grub/lilo int2 the CD ..so as to choose which of the distros to install.

  So the grub shld display:
  1.linux1
  2.linux2
  3.dos
  4.win98

so if i choose linux1 - tht shld start the installtion of linux1..thts as if
the linux1 cd was insertd..
and if i choose dos..it shld boot dos...etc.

Can this b done within a CD. Hope my doubt is clear. The distros lie on the
CD itself and not on the harddisk..

How do I modify /etc/fstab to point to the entries on the CD itslf..is thr
anyway....

This comes very useful if we hav dvd writers...say i cld store diff knoppix
's on a single dvd and choose which to boot...or i cld store installations cd
images of diff distros on a single DVD..and choose wish to install etc.

  HOPE u got the picture..

  THANKS A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

  lv
  hashir

hi,,

try www.nu2.nu, its got good pointers about making
multiboot cds and also, isolinux,,
http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php...

maybe iam moving away from the main point(ie grub),
but its got some good pointers about building
multiboot cds.

i've used these to build a multiboot cd with
linux(tomsrtbt), winxp, and ulitmate bootcd on one cd.

knox
