Hai
Talking abt Modems. I am havg trouble initializing my modem. I'm havg a PCTEL 
Inc HSP56 MicroModem .Its listed among the pci devices..but am uable to use it. 
I tried to download driver. All i got was an unofficial one..and whenevr i try 
to install it i get an error in the end sayin tht..my kernel was complied with 
a diff version of gcc compiler..!!!!
.Please Help. If i get my modem running ,i could switch ovr to Linux 
compltly..but now i hav to rely on windows for internet. :(.

maybe you have upgraded your gcc with which you compiled your kernel and 
is now trying to compile the module with the upgraded gcc. try this - 
recompile your kernel and then follow the instructions in the package 
which you downloaded.

you have not given enough information in the mail to be more helpful in 
this regard, i am afraid. always post which distribution, which kernel, 
the name and website of the package which you downloaded etc might go a 
long way in getting detailed help.

by the way where are you located ? if you are in cochin mail me offlist 
i will help you out !
