Hello All Was just goin through the mailz . No idea about the 'group' etc lol , anyway it is really a nice idea . I remember going to Abad Plaza with Balakrishnan sir few months back for a linux seminar . It was sponsored by some big company . I suggested lug to conduct a similar thing , but there were no response . So happy to know lot people are interested now .I don't have the right to sugest more coz I never come to meetings nowadays :(
Well , first I agree with Balakrishnan sir , we should target the general public and students . The reason is it is important to make them aware of opensource / free software / linux etc . Also my suggestion is not to go at a too technical level . I mean general public won't understand anything if we show them a long procedure of text based installation or the re-compiling of a kernel . So we should go as simple as possible first point is ( my opinion ) people more familiar to proprietory sofwares can't shift completely to gnu/linux in one day . Only gradual shifting is posible We can suggest alternatinves to them , can show demos Like openoffice , gimp , mozilla , GAIM ( I'm crazy about chat lol ) and a lot of opensource softwares that can replace many of the proprietory sofwares , we can tell them the advantages etc Problems of piracy / security / privacy etc Sure, we can have a special meeting for discussing it , and kudos to the students at cochin uty for their support Best Regards Din. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
