MessageDear Roshin,

Have u tried to boot into rescue mode from the CDs u have?=20
If not, do this.

boot into rescue mode from the CD setup.
u'll get a linux console prompt with a simillar file system heirarchy =
like the one u have in ur hard disk. but this is not the files in ur =
hard disk.=20
manually mount the linux partition (ie., the ur HD linux partition)
give something like this:-

mount -t ext2 /dev/hda2(or where ever ur linux is installed) /mnt

if mount succeeds u'll have the directory structure and files of ur =
linux installation in the /mnt directory

now do whatever u want. :)

Note: this method has potential security problems. ie., u can boot into =
rescue mode and change the root password ;)

knox

Subject: [Mailinglist] hwo do i boot into my linux ?

  =20
  I had installed RH linux 6.2 on my Hdd ( /dev/hda2 being .. u know =
what)
Later on I had Win NT on the same machine and made up NT OsLoader to =
do the Dual Booting for me ..
Now i made a fresh insatllation of Windows XP and I dont have access =
to my Linux !
I have Linux boot diskes (CDs) with me but i dont have the XP =
insatlation CDs and I dont have a Floppy Drive either :(
Linux boot image is ofcours on the bootpartition and not on MBR .. now =
XP has access to MBR
  =20
now i can always peel the bootsector from my linux partition
  # dd if=3D/dev/hda2 of=3D/bootsect.lnx bs=3D512 count=3D1
then use this file bootsect.lnx to let XP load Linux for me by editing =
boot.ini
adding C:\bootsect.lnx=3D"linux" to the boot.ini file
  =20
but HOW do i get to the exisiting Linux installation with the Linux =
CDs i have ?
i cant break out of the SETUP (anaconda) if I boot off the linux CD ..
now i have too boot into my existing Linux installation ( i dont have =
a Floppy drive) to make the bootsect.lnx file
how do i do that ?=20
