For each recipient listed in the message, Sendmail/Exim checks the Domain Name
System (DNS) for Mail Exchange (MX) records corresponding to the domain of the
recipient. A Mail Exchange record is an entry which tells you which computer
handles the mail for the domain.

This is usually done at the ISP level, if you are on dialup, you will have to
configure sendmail/exim to forward your mail to your ISP. Exim has lots of
documentation at exim.org
