Hi Chris and Richard!
I'm running Mountain Kitty still!
But I found I had to go to the services menu when just in finder without 
picking any folder, then opened it from there and I had to allow the item with 
a check box!
Then when I went to my Downloads and opened VO/shift/m and the alert option was 
now working!
Sorry made a bit of a mess with this but I hope you get the idea!
And it solves the problem!
