Hi, There is also a feature in Mavericks whereby when you Shutdown or Restart your computer, it will re-open windows and apps that were open when the computer was on. This checkbox is checked by default in the Shutdown/Restart dialog. If you uncheck it, it should remain unchecked from then on. A quick reminder as well that closing windows in apps on a Mac does not Quit the app. To totally remove the running app from memory, you need to actually Quit it.
