Hi Alex, For now, collaboration via iCloud from the Mac or iOS version of iWork can only be done by someone sharing the link via iCloud and the recipient editing via the web version of iWork. In other words, both people cannot use the Mac/iOS versions of iWork. Only one Apple ID retains a copy of the document in iCloud, the other people with authorisation to edit the document must use the web app.
At least that is my understanding. I looked into it recently because I assumed it would work the same way as you did. But things might have changed without me knowing. Anyway, this doesn't stop you just saving the document in Dropbox and sharing it that way. It's not good for syncing with iOS, but it's great for syncing between Macs.
