Ray, did you mean restore instead of backup? Once my Mac has a fresh copy of mavericks on it, I don't want to restore everything. I want my iTunes library, work files, audio projects, and so on, but I don't want, for instance, my Applications folder or other system folders. I just had a peek at my Time Machine backup drive, and I opened my most recent backup. I thought it would only have changed items since the last backup, but it contains my entire drive, somehow. I have no clue what magic my Mac is performing behind the scenes, but somehow this latest backup appears to have all my files, not just changed ones. So, I guess my question about restoring from the proper date and being sure I have everything might be moot, if the Mac is able to present all the files for a given backup, not just the ones it actually had to back up at that point.
