I'm having the opposite problem. Messages I have moved into other folders or archived remain visible in my gMail inbox on my MacBook Air, though they appear only in their designated folder on my other devices not running Mavericks. I'm using a 2011 MacBook Air running Mavericks, Apple Mail and gMail IMAP. Admittedly it's only currently affecting one message, so it's not a huge deal, but still not what I expect or consider acceptable from my Mac.
