Are you on the web site, or using the mail app?

If you’re on the web site, there is a row of buttons above the list of 
messages.  Check the messages that you want to delete in the table.  After 
that, go to that row of buttons just above the table and find the one that says 
delete forever and click that one.

If you’re in the apple mail app, just hit command backspace(or command delete)
